This is an Xtranormal animation. You will need a Flash player in order to watch it.
One of the most popular Fantasy series is Harry Potter. These books led to my pursuit of a Masters Degree in Library Science and the desire to become a school librarian. I am a big fan of the underdog and I challenge anyone to not root for Harry Potter after reading the first few chapters of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. While there are many different Fantasy series and books, Harry Potter will remain my favorite.

Sci Fi Story Starter....

Use this picture to start a story for a science fiction novel. You might want to brainstorm ideas with a few people to make an "out there" kind of story. While it is just a photo of an astronaut walking on the moon, there are other ways you can take this story. Be creative and post your start below!

I had fun trying to get the robots to say Sci Fi. Typing Sigh Fie finally did the trick! The combinations of how they pronounced Sci Fi was interesting. It takes a lot of creativity to develop Science Fiction stories.

The Last Adventure Book I read....

Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is the most recent adventure story I've read. This book spawned a series of books about the outdoor experiences of the main character Brian.

What is the last adventure book you've read and what did you think?

Making this video was an adventure, I just couldn't get the camera angles to work right, but then again, adventures are unpredictable!

Here is another mystery for you! There are two book covers on the walls in the background of this video. Can you identify either of them? Try just figuring out what series of mysteries they come from!

Realistic Fiction

I thought using a younger girl voice would work well to describe books set in schools that involve people who could be real. But this girl sounds unlike anyone I've ever met!

My Favorite Historical Fiction Book

To date my favorite Historical Fiction novel is Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. Number the Stars won the 1990 Newbery Medal. (Which recognizes the most distinguished American children's book). Number the Stars follows two young girls living in German occupied Denmark during WWII.

You should be able to watch this video about Historical Fiction right from this blog page. You might recognize Queen Elizabeth but who is the gentleman with her?
